Michael L. Nichols, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Mike Nichols is from Mexico, Missouri and attended the University of Missouri – Columbia for his early undergraduate training. His undergraduate studies continued at the University of Houston where he graduated and was accepted into the College of Optometry. After graduating Summa Cum Laude and finishing his clinical training in Houston, he practiced in Moberly for two years before joining the staff at Columbia Eye Consultants in 1980 where he continues as the senior optometrist. Throughout his professional career he has served in numerous leadership positions with optometric organizations including the Missouri Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, Missouri State Board of Optometry, North Central States Optometric Council, American Optometric Association and Heart of America Contact Lens and Primary Care Congress. Dr. Nichols resides in Columbia with his wife Pam and enjoys golf, travel, church activities and spending time with family.
Rob Bernskoetter, O.D.
Dr. Rob Bernskoetter is a native of Jefferson City, Missouri. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri – Columbia and his optometry degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry. Dr. Bernskoetter joined Columbia Eye Consultants Optometry after graduation in 1996. For several years he worked one day a week in the eye clinic at Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans Hospital. He has served on local and state optometry committees and was named Young Optometrist of the Year in 1998. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Missouri Optometric Association. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, taking walks with his wife and their dogs, and following Mizzou and Columbia College sports.
Jeff Gamble, O.D.
Dr. Jeff Gamble is a native of Columbia, Missouri. He completed his undergraduate studies at Missouri State University in Springfield and graduated from Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry in Tahlequah, Oklahoma in 2002. Dr. Gamble was honored and privileged to follow in his father’s footsteps and practice as a second-generation optometrist with Dr. James Gamble for over 13 years. Dr. Jeff Gamble began practicing at Columbia Eye Consultants Optometry in 2002 and enjoys all aspects of comprehensive optometry with an emphasis on the aging eye. Dr. Gamble also enjoys serving his profession and his patients through active leadership in the Missouri Optometric Association, including the office of President of the Missouri Optometric Association for the 2015-2016 term. When not attending to the needs of his patients, Dr. Gamble enjoys spending time with his wife and four children, serving in various ministries at The Crossing church, and playing golf.
Chris DeRose, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Dr. Chris DeRose is from Olean, New York. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Buffalo and received his optometry doctorate degree from the Illinois College of Optometry in 1999. Dr. DeRose completed his residency training program at Eye Associates of Nevada in Las Vegas, Nevada specializing in Ocular Disease and Refractive and Ocular Surgery. After residency, he practiced in Evanston, Illinois and Chicago, Illinois before moving to Columbia and joining the staff of Columbia Eye Consultants Optometry in 2007. Dr. DeRose is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, member of the American Optometric Association, member of the Missouri Optometric Association, and was board certified by the American Board of Optometry in 2011. He currently serves as President of the Missouri Optometric Association. He enjoys practicing all areas of comprehensive Optometry including ocular disease, refractive surgery management, pediatrics, geriatrics, contact lenses, and specialty contact lenses. When not engaged in patient care, Dr. DeRose enjoys rooting for Mizzou Athletics and spending time with his wife, Jordan (a Columbia native), and his two daughters, Lucy and Abby.
Melissa Liepins-Masek, OD.
Dr. Melissa Liepins-Masek is a native of Rockford, Illinois. She completed her undergraduate studies at The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and graduated Summa Cum Laude and Salutatorian from the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Liepins provides comprehensive eye care for all ages and has previously practiced pediatric optometry on the university level. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Missouri Optometric Association. In her free time, Dr. Liepins enjoys traveling, watching cooking shows, and spending time with her husband, two sons, and French bulldog. Dr. Liepins joined the Columbia Eye Consultants Optometry team in 2012.
Ryan Wilkerson, OD
Dr. Ryan Wilkerson grew up in Lebanon, MO before attending the University of Missouri – Columbia where he graduated with a degree in Biology. He then received his optometry degree from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, graduating as salutatorian of his class. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association and the Missouri Optometric Association. Dr. Wilkerson provides comprehensive, primary eye care to his patients with particular interest in contact lenses and children's vision care. He joined Columbia Eye Consultants Optometry in 2016. Outside of the office, Dr. Wilkerson enjoys spending time with his wife, Gwen, and two young children, Luella and Arthur, attending Mizzou sporting events, and playing tennis.
Jacqueline Byrd, OD
Dr. Jacqueline Byrd grew up in California, Missouri. She then went on to complete her undergraduate education at the University of Missouri and received her optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry in Orange County, California where she graduated with honors. Dr. Byrd practices comprehensive eye care with a special interest in contact lenses and vision therapy. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Missouri Optometric Association. During her free time Dr. Byrd enjoys spending time with her husband, attending The Crossing church, playing board games, and cooking.

Nathan Hesemann, MD
Dr. Nathan Hesemann grew up in Central Missouri and attended the University of Missouri School of Medicine. After completing ophthalmology residency, he entered private practice in St. Louis where he practiced for several years. He returned to Central Missouri in 2015 and became the Chief of Eye Services at the Harry S. Truman VA Hospital, a position that he still currently holds. In 2016, he joined the staff of Columbia Eye Consultants Optometry. Dr. Hesemann practices comprehensive ophthalmology with an emphasis on cataract surgery. He is currently active in research and has co-authored peer-reviewed literature. His opinions have been published in ophthalmology journals and he was a joint inventor of a US patented ophthalmic device. Dr. Hesemann has won awards for excellence in the teaching of eye surgery and for his clinical care while at the University of Missouri and Harry S. Truman VA. Dr. Hesemann, his wife, and three daughters live in Columbia. He enjoys the outdoors, Mizzou basketball, and working on his family farm.
